Down Payment Assistance Programs
July 24th, 2008 4:57 PM
As of this blog on July 24, 2008, the Senate is set to vote (on Saturday the 26th) for a Housing Bill that would eliminate Down Payment Assistance Programs, such as the Nehemiah Grant. Even though I feel guidelines should possibly be re-structured, I think getting rid of this program will hurt the current housing market, instead of help it. Just today, I closed on a first time home buyer transaction who would not have been able to buy right now if it hadn't been for the 3% seller paid DPA. This client is extremely excited about receiving her keys tomorrow and starting the move in process. Unfortunately, my next FHA client might not be able to have that opportunity if this provision stays in the current Housing Bill.
